Page 3 of 4 Finally, compose a brief prayer to summarize your time with God. It can be as simple as saying, “Thanks for the verse! It was just what I needed.” Or you might ask God for a clearer message next time if you had some trouble. Just pray what is on your heart and write down what is on your mind. Sounds simple, right? It’s the most complicated simple thing you’ve ever done! And because its easy to skip a day or two or twelve, we’ve added a second word. YES! SOAP should be done by an individual, but YES needs a group. Why? You need to be in a group so that you have accountability. You may be thinking that you don’t need accountability. I have three words for you. “New Year’s Resolution.” Now that we’re on the same page, let’s talk about how this accountability gets lived out. YES is another acronym. It stands for Yielding, Encouraging, and Storytelling. In the weekly or biweekly YES group meeting, each member shares a few of the Scriptures that are calling for change in his or her life. The group offers encouragement and gentle accountability for these efforts. The conversations range from merely interesting to deep discussions of faith and discipleship.
