Most people don't like handing out their e-mail address to a lot of people they don't know. That's why South Pleasant Grove's e-mail lists are all handled automatically. When you join an e-mail list, your address is added directly to a list located on a computer called a server, thus the name list-serv.
When we need to send a message to the folks on the e-mail list, it goes directly to the server (see Figure 1). Anyone can send a message to the server as long as they know the name of the e-mail list. But only those messages approved by the list manager will actually be sent to the group.

Once the message has been approved, the listserv prepares the message to go out to the members of the e-mail list (see Figure 2). Most of the time, this means that the message is simplified and the attachments are removed.

Finally, the listserv creates a copy of the message for each member of the list, then sends all of them to the recipients (see Figure 3). When you receive your copy, there is no indication of the other list members anywhere. This means your information is safe while the message is sent to everyone who has joined the list.

Joining Our Lists
Currently, there are three lists. Two are lists that can be accessed by anyone. These are the softball and prayer concerns lists. Anyone may send to these lists, but only topical material will be approved. For example, the softball list is used to remind players of practices and games. We probably won't approve an announcement about a yard sale a member is holding. Just try to use common sense.
The e-newsletter list is an adminstrative list that only office staff can send. This list will only be used to send the monthly South Pleasant Grove Newsletter in e-mail format.
You can access these lists in the menu to the left. With these interfaces, you can subscribe, unsubscribe, or change your subscription style, or how you receive your mail. For more help on listservs at South Pleasant Grove, contact the church office or the pastor directly.
